lithium-magnesium-potassium (Alkaline Trio)
I saw Alkaline Trio a while back with Against Me! at Starland Ballroom in Jersey and swore I would never buy any of their albums. I was young and dumb and it was a foolish thing to say but I was already upset because Against Me was the opener and A3’s set was mostly acoustic. I was looking for the gritty Chicago punk that they’re known for and instead they gave me acoustic slow jamz which did nothing but calm the energy that Against Me raised in me. After some time passed I gave them a second chance, stealing “From Here To Infirmary” and “Good Mourning” from my ex-girlfriend. While they still don’t make it into my Top 10 Bands these two albums alone would put them in the ‘teens of my top 25. Besides their brash lyrics and edgy style they have GREAT album art, designed by Heather Hannoura, now Heather Gabel since she married Against Me! lead singer Tom Gabel (ironic, eh?). The black and red symbolizes A3’s hardcore punk roots with subtle demonic allusion. I was scannin the web looking for a good image from their albums to post as my desktop background when I discovered custom iPods with the ‘Crimson’ and ‘Good Mourning’ artwork. I found em at www.music-skins.com where they’ve got four different Alkaline Trio designs made to fit any iPod (classic, video, nano, mini, iTouch), iPhones and Razrs, and big ones for laptop covers. I ordered the ‘Crimson’ one for my iPod and couldn’t be more pleased with the way it protects, looks, and costs. There’s a ton of different bands (Dashboard Confessional, Senses Fail, Thrice, Saves The Day), rappers (Jim Jones, Paul Wall, Juelz Santana), artists (LRG, Dave White), and hot girls on their site and they’ve added a bunch more since i checked last week. Check em out at www.music-skins.com and make sure to pick up A3’s new album ‘Agony and Irony’ when it comes out. As much as i hate to be a flip-flopper I’m gonna buy this album and love the shit out of it.

Hey stanks,
Katy here from Sarathan Records, a small indie label from Seattle. I just came across your blog and see you’re into A3..or still slightly in denial that you love A3..haha. I thought you might like one of our new artists, War Tapes. They have toured with The Bravery, Smashing Pumpkins and most recently, Tiger Army. They’ve been described as “Interpol meets AFI with a dose of The Cure”.
Anyway, we’re offering a free download of their song, “Dreaming of You”. You can snag it here: http://sarathan.com/free/wartapes
If you get a chance to listen I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to post the song and share it with anyone you think might be into it. For more info, check out http://www.myspace.com/wartapes
cheers,
Katy
