Dashboard Confessional: Cry about it…

We’ve all got guilty pleasures, mine is Dashboard Confessional. I tried for so long to disassociate myself with anything labeled emo or endorsed by Chris Carraba but I can’t help it. When I was 17 driving around town on boring school nights I would throw my Dashboard mix in and close the windows so nobody passing by would think I was in touch with anything resembling a feminine side. While I still won’t blast “Hands Down” at stop lights the way I bump “Get Buck” (Young Buck’s most thugged out banger to date), I have come to my senses and now fully endorse their talent. DC uses emotional lyrics and catchy acoustic riffs to lure me in even as I vehemently resist. In my quest to support Dashboard in a relatively subtle manner I came across www.music-skins.com, a company that makes iPod, laptop, and cell phone covers with sweet designs on them. You can get either the “Places You’ve Come to Fear the Most” or “Shade of Poison Trees” album art made to fit ANY iPod (classic, video, nano, mini, iTouch), PC and Mac laptops, iPhones, and Razrs. There’s a certain degree of amusing irony that comes along with playing Pantera or G-Unit on my iPod with its Dashboard skin that I really enjoy. I don’t read Jack Kerouac, I don’t play the acoustic guitar in my bedroom with the lights off, I don’t cry at night because I’ll never be loved, and I certainly don’t have too much pent up teen angst, but I DO love Dashboard Confessional enough to rock an iPod skin that looks cool, protects my shit, and reps the band I secretly adore. Check out the Dashboard skins at www.music-skins.com and take a look at all the other bands (Alkaline Trio, Senses Fail, Trice), rappers (Jim Jones, Paul Wall, Juelz Santana), and artists (LRG, Dave White) up on their website. Best of all… the skins are waterproof so you don’t ruin your iPod while you sob hysterically listening to “Screaming Infidelities.”
